The brilliant actor finds himself in a media frenzy after details emerge of his slightly creepy affair with E’Dina Hines, the granddaughter of his ex-wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. E’Dina was murdered in 2015 by her boyfriend Lamar Davenport.
One of the most respected Hollywood stars today, 78 year-old Morgan Freeman wouldn’t have even anticipated the negativity he would experience and the kind of flak he would receive when after his divorce from his second wife, he had to battle rumors of an existing romantic relationship with his step-granddaughter!
A young Morgan Freeman was already once divorced from Jeanette Adair Bradshaw with whom he has sons, Saifoulaye and Alfonso. After being married for almost twelve years, the two divorced each other for reasons unknown in 1979. Jeanette Bradshaw had a daughter, Deena from a previous relationship and Deena had a daughter, E’Dina Hines.
After the divorce Deena was adopted by Morgan and his second wife Myrna Colley-Lee, a theater and film costume designer whom he married in 1984, and raised along with their daughter Morgana Freeman. But after a marriage of almost twenty-six years, Morgan and Myrna divorced in 2010 after Myrna filed for divorce in 2008.
The divorce was finalized in September 2010 and the actor had to shell out an outrageous $400 million to Myrna as part of the divorce settlement.
According to Myrna, while she and Morgan had an open marriage and were free to have other sexual partners, the two had not been intimate since 2001 and had separated in 2006.
There were rumors already out in the media regarding the existence of Morgan’s long-time mistress, a teacher. But in 2009, there were added rumors in the media regarding Morgan’s almost ten year old relationship with his step-granddaughter, E’Dina Hines since she was a teen.
But things turned shocking for the public when a popular tabloid came out with the news that the two were headed for the altar and it further implied that his marriage to Myrna probably floundered because of that. The tabloid also quoted sources saying that the marriage was E’Dina Hines’ main goal and that Morgan wanted to make an honest woman of her and father children with her.
The public shock arose not because of an older man marrying a much younger woman, but because of the almost incestuous nature of the story even though the two were not related by blood.
The story swept like wildfire in 2012 and both Morgan and E’Dina Hines had to come out with statements that rubbished the story; Morgan called it ‘defamatory fabrications’ and had to do a lot of damage control to salvage his image of a respected and brilliant actor worldwide.
In August 2015, E’Dina Hines died tragically in New York after being stabbed by her mentally disturbed boyfriend. ‘The world will never know her artistry in talent. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.’, stated Morgan Freeman at the time of her death. Myrna who had helped raise E’Dina was also spotted at the apartment hours after her death.
