When rumours emerged that Lara Spencer was getting cosy with Matt Lauer, they were quickly debunked. But David Haffenreffer still divorced his wife of 15 years. Which was for the better for her because she is once more happily engaged to her boyfriend for two years, Rick McVey.

Divorce after 15 happy years
Lara Spencer and David Haffenreffer married in 2000 and went on to have two children together. For all the world to see the couple was most certainly happy and very dedicated to their children. But in March this year, the two announced their mutual decision to get a divorce. Despite calling it a sad decision, because they respected and loved each other and their children, it sounded pretty inevitable.
Neither has ever actually given further reason as to why they decided to divorce and unfortunately that means we have only the National Enquirer’s allegations to fall back on.
Affair with Matt Lauer?
Among other things, they have told us at the beginning of the year that Matt Lauer and Lara Spencer were getting awfully cosy. That prompted divorce rumours for Matt’s own marriage, which was still going strong at the time and is only now (in August 2018) getting divorced. And ultimately, that myth was debunked, because the competing TV hosts rarely have any contact with each other and there’s no evidence that they’ve even been seen together in any capacity.
Not long after that, however, it was alleged that it was Matt Lauer who broke up Lara Spencer’s marriage because of an affair or because he kept pining over her or whatever the National Enquirer cooked up.
Again, there’s not a shred of evidence for this and ultimately, it would seem that the reason for Lara’s and David’s split were Lara and David. Perhaps they realized they were better off as friends. Both lead busy lives and whilst they seem to always have time for the children, that left little time for each other.
Better off as friends?
It’s a fact that Lara and David went on vacation together with their children after they announced their divorce. And recently, with the divorce settled, the exes went out to a sports event with their children with everyone looking quite happy.
The settlement details of their divorce are not known, but it’s been said that they will continue to raise their children together and that everything was quite amicable.
Does anyone really believe that the two would remain such good friends if cheating had played a role in their divorce? Most people are not that magnanimous.
It’s certainly curious that Matt Lauer’s name keeps cropping up, but we might as well claim a conspiracy theory against him spearheaded by the National Enquirer before we believe anything that magazine comes up with.
In 2016, Lara was set up on a blind date with millionaire Rick McVey. Whilst they first kept their relationship lowkey, images of the two made it to social media eventually and Laura no longer hid her happiness.
In January 2018, it was officially revealed that Rick had proposed to Lara, which meant a new engagement for the couple. Details of the proposal were unknown, but it might have happened on a New Year’s getaway to Colorado.
The couple has yet to tie the knot, though they are said to be busily planning their nuptials. It is very likely that ex-husband David and their children will be in attendance as well.
