Jeremy Renner had a child with Sonni Pacheco, then married her and was on his way to divorce only 10 months later. When the divorce was finalized, he had to pay up for his child, but not for his ex-wife.
Divorce finalized in December 2015
Jeremy Renner met ex-wife Sonni Pacheco in Vancouver in 2010 whilst he was filming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and she was working on set as a stand-in. The aspiring actress and former model and the actor hit it off quickly and the two became a couple.
In March 2013 they welcomed daughter Ava and things were going pretty well between the two. A child of divorce himself, Jeremy was not a big believer in marriage. He didn’t actually think he’d go down the aisle with Sonni or anyone for that matter, but he wanted to provide his daughter with a solid family unit and decided to take the plunge.
He was 43 when he married Sonni in January 2014. She was 21.
Ten months later the couple separated and Sonni filed for divorce from Jeremy. Apparently their attempt at marriage didn’t work. At the time it was reported that the two were simply too different to make it work. Their significant age difference may have played a role as well.
It was reported that Jeremy regretted getting married very soon after the fact. That makes it unsurprising that the marriage ultimately failed. It also became clear very soon that the divorce was going to be contentious. Sonni requested primary physical but joint legal custody for their daughter. Oddly she also requested that Jeremy should “immediately return (her) stolen passport, birth certificate, social security card and be restrained from making further efforts to conceal same.” It’s unclear what might be the story behind that request.
Additionally Sonni wanted the prenup the estranged couple had signed to be declared invalid because of fraud. She wanted the couple’s Range Rover, at least for the time being, and Jeremy should pay the lease and also pay for her moving expenses.
The divorce took its toll on Jeremy. He was working on movies and had to content with going to depositions to sort out the divorce from Sonni. At the same time he tried to spend quality time with his daughter as well.
Ultimately the divorce was finalized in December 2015. The prenup was considered valid and everything that had been set down in it would be adhered to. That meant that Sonni would not receive any spousal support. Jeremy also kept most of his properties as well as his car and motorcycle. It’s unclear if Sonni received anything here.
Jeremy was ordered to pay Sonni $13,000 a month in child support, however. And in case his yearly income would exceed $2.3 million a year, he was also ordered to pay an additional 5% in child support.
Whilst that is a lot of money, Jeremy absolutely adores his daughter and wants to spend as much time with her as possible. He and Sonni have shared legal and physical custody, so he does get equal time with his daughter. Jeremy even said that he would decline future jobs if it meant that he would not be able to spend as much time with his daughter. So he likely pays child support gladly, no matter how much it is.
In the meantime he has moved on. He’s not officially known to be dating anyone in particular, but has been seen out and about with various women. He was briefly linked to co-star Paula Patton, but it was denied that anything was going on between the two. He seems to concentrate mostly on his career and his daughter. The same is apparently true for Sonni.
