Following the trend of amicable divorces, Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie are currently separated but remain close friends. So close, in fact, that a divorce seems currently unlikely.
They’ve been together since 2007, and after almost three years of relationship, Mike Comrie finally popped the question in 2010, marryingthe then 22-year old Hilary Duff that same year. Two years later son Luca Cruz was born.
Now at 26, Hilary Duff has been separated from her husband since January. It’s an awfully young age to be getting divorced at. But currently it is not at all clear that a divorce will indeed be filed.
When they first announced their split, they did so together, stating that they would remain best friends, who will continue to be in each other’s lives, both dedicated parents to their son Luca.
The first tweet Hilary sent after the announcement made the news went like this: “Mike and I are sitting here. We are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we’re getting thru it together.”
Whilst Hilary took off her wedding ring, she continued to remain close to Mike. They were and still are regularly seen together, always appearing close and comfortable with each other. Neither one has said a bad word about the other.
Only so-called sources revealed that the reason for their split might have been the sudden end of Mike’s NHL career after a hip injury, a subsequent fall into apathy, and his lack of effort towards their marriage.
Apparently they went through 18 months of marriage counselling, but to no avail. With the spark no longer there, they realized that they were better off as friends. Or so the source said.
Another source, however, revealed that there was no bad blood between the couple at all. They had simply grown apart, but the split was very amicable.
For now a divorce isn’t even on the table. The exes are taking their time to even file the papers and Mike is still very much part of Hilary’s family, spending much time with her and them. Hilary said that there were taking a relaxed approach and even hinted that reconciliation is an option.
It does appear to be the latest Hollywood trend for couples to split very amicably and retain a good relationship for the sake of their children. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin started it, David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have been continuing along the same lines.
Unlike those two couples, however, Hilarly Duff and Mike Comrie seem to have a chance to get back together and there’s truly no reason why they shouldn’t. Rumors aside, they only ever appeared as a couple very much in love in public. Somehow that has not changed since the split.
The oddest thing that has happened to Hilary in regards to the break-up were tweets that Aaron Carter, her boyfriend when she was 16, sent. He very much declared his continuing love for her and his desire to win her back, no matter what.
When asked about those tweets, Hilary was clearly uncomfortable, stating that she wasn’t sure what was behind those tweets.
It was a long time ago since they had been together, both where certainly different people now and she couldn’t very well say that she still knew him, or that he still knew her. And then there is the fact that she is still married, not looking to get divorced just yet. Not to mention the existence of her two-year old son.
Aaron Carter’s latest comment on the situation indicated a clear retreat. Perhaps he realized that he made somewhat of a fool of himself in an incredibly public manner. He said he doesn’t want to be “that dude” that interferes with whatever Hilary and Mike have, especially having a kid together. But Hilary continues to have a special place in his heart. One is tempted to think that he will pursue her again, should she ever become officially available again.
It seems more likely, however, that Hilary is headed for reconciliation rather than a divorce. No doubt, we’ll find out soon enough.
