After 20 years of marriage, three children and what appears to have been a stable, happy relationship, Cuba Gooding Jr.’s wife files for separation from him, not yet divorce.
He married his high school sweetheart. Not many people can say that and claim to have lasted 20 years and share three children. When pictured with his family, Cuba always looked happy, whether he was with his wife or his children, or both.
In a 2013 interview on The View he certainly gushed about his wife and his marriage, giving her a lot of credit for putting up with his work and schedule. He also said he had to get to know her over and over again through the stages of her life and has always been able to fall in love with her once more.
Yet, when you look at just a few of the claims that he’s flirted with other women over the years, making it quite clear in some cases that he wanted to sleep with them, one wonders what he didn’t find at home.
It doesn’t require an extensive search on Google to find allegations of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s cheating on his wife. Reading those articles one can’t find much actual evidence that he did indeed cheat, however. He came onto women, often in a stage of drunkenness. There are certainly photos of him showing him inebriated.
But none of the claims seem to be very substantial. That doesn’t mean they are not true, but the women in question only came forward once and were never heard from again. Nobody made any sexual harassment claims against Cuba Gooding Jr., though some women said his advances had been unwanted.
Cuba himself certainly never said anything about those claims and went home to his wife for all anyone knows. There have been claims that he was too much of a party boy and friends feared that his alcohol and substance abuse would be so bad that he would need to go into rehab.
Again, aside from a few reports about this, among them the National Enquirer, it never arose as a widely known issue with him.
It can’t be denied that he is a Hollywood star and there’s a cliché about those concerning excessive alcohol and drug use. And then, of course, his wife did file for legal separation precisely one year ago. Beyond the ‘irreconcilable differences’ nothing more was heard from her, though.
Cuba has kept quiet as well. There was no joint statement from the couple and nobody seems to have filed for divorce yet. Perhaps they are working on it, only they would know.
Cuba continues to work and since the news of the separation broke, only a few of those cheating rumors made the rounds. But there has been no information about the situation between him and his wife. Keeping things private, however, can only be beneficial, especially for his young daughter. His boys are old enough to be able to handle their parent’s separation, but it would be hard on the girl.
Sooner or later we’ll find out, if they manage to work it out or if divorce is inevitable. Usually it’s not the worst sign, when a divorce isn’t filed within a year.
