They dated longer than their actual marriage lasted. When Mamie Gummer and Benjamin Walker announced their split, it came as a surprise. Since then they quietly divorced.
Divorce was likely finalized by the end of 2013
They met on Broadway in 2008 while co-starring in Les Liasons Dangereuses and married in a small ceremony on her parent’s property in 2011. But Mamie Gummer’s marriage to Benjamin Walker didn’t last long at all.
When photographed together the couple seemed happy and when their reps announced their amicable split in March 2013, nobody knew what had gone wrong. Apparently the split had been very new then, but it was obviously very final.
Only a day later Mamie was already seen out and about with her mom Meryl Streep, smiling brightly and seemingly unconcerned. No newsabout her divorce from Benjamin Walkerhas become public since the split was first announced. Neither Mamie nor Benjamin have said anything about the divorce, it’s not even clear when they divorced.
It’s likely that it was amicable, however, and thus would have been settled after the required six months after divorce was filed. If there had been any contest or quarrel, we would probably have heard about it, but there was literally nothing. The fact that neither Mamie nor Benjamin is Hollywood royalty like Meryl Streep probably has something to do with that. They were never that exciting to begin with to report about and so the gossip magazines didn’t pay much attention once the news broke.
If there had been some sort of fight, it would’ve probably been different, but since we know next to nothing, the divorce must have gone down very quietly.
The only reason we must assume that the divorce was finalized (probably still in 2013) is the fact that Benjamin Walker has been dating Kaya Scodelario for a few months now and is even rumored to be engaged to her. Benjamin has been called Meryl Streep’s former son-in-law, which indicates that the divorce from Mamie is final.
It’s not known whether Mamie is seeing anyone, but she is likely dating here and there. She is keeping a fairly low profile in her private life, which seems to be a family tradition. Mamie is young enough to find herself love again and hopefully it will be the last time should she get married again.
If Benjamin will really get married to Kaya remains to be seen. They are ten years apart in age, which can become an issue, because Kaya is merely 22 years old, which tends to be too young in Hollywood to enter a lasting marriage.
