Just as details of their wedding never quite seem to match up, so their apparent divorce leaves us with more questions than answers. Are Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia headed for divorce?
Whilst there are plenty of details about their 2004 wedding in France, the exact numbers are apparently a thing of myths. Depending on who you ask, there were between 1.000 and 1.500 guests invited to the wedding. The whole show lasted six days. It cost between £30 and £60 Million, though one also reads the number of $78 Million frequently (let’s not forget about conversion rates and inflation). Apparently Kylie Minogue sang. And the invites to the wedding were 20 pages long and delivered in silver cases.
Vanisha Mittal is, after all, the daughter of and heir to Lakshmi Mittal, India’s richest business man and one of the top five billionaires in the world.
Amit Bathia has made a fair share of money himself, working for Lakshmi Mittal even before his wedding to Vanisha, but he’s still not worth billions. Not that a few hundred million aren’t enough.
We do know that the couple has three children and that Amit is very much a workaholic. For the majority of his marriage, in fact, he has worked more than he has spent time with his wife and children.
He did decide to cut down his hours and work more like normal people do in order to ensure a happy home life. But it’s been reported last year that Vanisha had filed for divorce in London, where she lives with her family. Apart from a few rumours there is no solid evidence that it really happened, if or how far the divorce may have progressed and what the reasons behind it were.
Given how expensive the wedding was, would they not do everything they could to keep the marriage together? Obviously, if they are profoundly unhappy (and at least in 2013 it didn’t sound like it according to Amit), then there’s no price tag that should keep them from getting a divorce.
But if they are indeed divorcing, at least Lakshmi Mittal wouldn’t be very happy, given that he was the one paying for it all to begin with. If the numbers are indeed correct, one has to wonder, though, what these people were thinking.
There is one country in the world that doesn’t allow divorces. Realistically speaking it is therefore something one has to consider before getting married. How long had Vanisha and Amit known each other before they were married? They were engaged at 24 years old and married shortly thereafter.
Did they ever talk about the possibility of a divorce? There are rumours of a prenup having been signed, so the topic must have come up.
Now, let’s not forget that there is such a thing as social media. Amit doesn’t mention his family very often on Twitter, but at least last summer he, Vanisha and their kids were all on holiday together and he has posted a few pictures with Vanisha here and there. Unless they are really good friends even after an alleged divorce, it is probably safe to say that they are still married.
Whilst Vanisha has an Instagram account, it is private. But her profile picture shows her with her husband.
Let’s conclude for now that the couple is not divorced, despite a few rumours that have emerged last year.
