Toni Braxton and Keri Lewis took four years to get divorced – a year later they fight over child-support
Toni Braxton married Keri Lewis in 1998. He was her first and only husband and is the father of her two sons Denim and Diezel.
In older pictures of the couple and the family, they generally look happy and comfortable with one another. There weren’t any rumours prior to their split that indicated that anything was awry. The two didn’t always have it easy, however.
Toni had to file for bankruptcy twice during her career and one of their sons had been diagnosed with autism at some point. Toni, weirdly, blamed herself for the diagnosis, believing it to be a punishment from God for an abortion she had early on in her relationship with Keri.
It must be said that she has come out in the past with strange comments like that and sometimes she still manages to put her foot in her mouth with things she said that make no sense or are downright offensive.
For instance, she called her divorce from a Keri “very Caucasian”, claiming that they had a very “white” divorce, meaning a civilized one. How a civilized divorce can possibly be associated with the colour of the couple’s skin is beyond just about everyone. Plenty of acrimonious divorces have been between white couples and plenty of ex-couples of people of colour have been amicable.
One thing really has nothing to do with the other and Toni’s fan essentially asked her to stop saying stuff like that. In fact, she was asked to only open her mouth to sing, because she’s never really all that great in interviews.
We don’t know what led to her divorce from Keri. Neither of them said anything about the reasons behind it when they announced their split in 2009. At the time there was no talk of divorce either, by the way.
But eventually the two did file for divorce and their nearly 12-year union came to an end. The divorce was finalized in 2013. At the time Keri was ordered to pay $2,000 in monthly child-support, something he apparently never did.
In October 2014 Toni finally decided to sue Keri for the child-support, claiming he never paid and even refused to pay. Once more her move was considered surprising, because prior to suing him she claimed that the exes were on great terms.
In July 2015 it was reported that she and Keri had settled outside of court, but details are not available. Toni withdrew the case and that was that.
