A man such as Elon Musk is not so much scrutinized for his celebrity status but very much for his incredible wealth. Elon is a self-made man who has struggled in the past, but he’s also been incredibly successful as the founder of PayPal, then Tesla and now SpaceX.
He married his first wife relatively young at 29 in 2010. He had met Justine years before when they were both still studying and according to her he had pursued her pretty relentlessly until she was finally ready to be with him. Justine has infamously written much about her relationship with, marriage to and then divorce from Elon Musk.
The two have five sons in total, a set of twins and a set of triplets, all conceived via IVF treatments. Their first son died of sudden infant death syndrome at only ten weeks old. According to Justine the couple had a few ups and downs, but made it through the worst of it. But their relationship was not an equal one, which was probably one of the reasons it ended.
The couple split in 2008, but the divorce took over two years to be settled, mostly because Justine contended their post-nuptial agreement, which would have seen her well off, but she didn’t deem it fair and considered herself defrauded.
Contrary to what some outlets have written, Elon Musk only met his second wife Talulah Riley after he had filed for divorce from Justine. But he was engaged to Talulah before his divorce was finalized.
Talulah is fourteen years younger than Elon and married him for the first time in 2010, when she was 25.
Justine, who apparently liked Talulah and got on well with her, commented that Talulah was much more the wife that Elon needed and cut out for the world he lives in, whereas she herself never felt much at ease in it.
Given that she knew Elon before he even founded PayPal and saw him rise to the heights he is now at, this cannot be surprising.
After two years together, Elon and Talulah divorced in 2012. It’s not actually clear why they divorced. Was she too young, was he too busy? Running two big companies cannot be an easy feat and Elon himself once said that he does 200 business trips a year, which means he is easily gone for two thirds of the year.
He also wants to spent time with his sons, whom he calls the love of his life. Perhaps there simply was no time for the couple and eventually they decided to call it quits.
But not long after the divorce was finalized, the couple was seen back together and in 2013 they married once more. Clearly they loved each other despite everything that has been previously stacked against them.
In 2014, however, Talulah went off to Scotland to direct her first feature film and was gone for five months. And so, when one year ended and a new one begun, Elon filed for divorce once more. He even paid Talulah a $16 Million settlement before the divorce was final.
But once more the two reconciled and Elon requested that the divorce papers be rescinded. Since then there has been no further talk of a divorce and perhaps the third time will be the charm for Elon and Talulah after all. Surely they’ve been through enough by now to know what makes their relationship work.
Elon Musk is a go-getter and it seems it is Talulah he wants. As long as they manage to reconcile before a divorce is finalized, these two might just stand a chance.
