Snoop Dogg, then Calvin Broadus, met his wife Shante when they were still at high school. In 2014 the two celebrated their 25th anniversary, which means their relationship began in 1989. That was long before Snoop had any kind of fame to his name. Their oldest son was born in 1994 and their second son was born in 1997, the same year the two finally married.
Last followed their daughter in 1999.
Snoop has had the reputation of being a womanizer pretty much since the beginning of his career. One would have indeed been excused to think that he was not a married man with three children at home. It seems he was able to resist everything but temptation and there was much of that. It seems to come with the industry he was and is working in.
By 2004 Shante had had enough of his wandering ways and gave Snoop an ultimatum. Either he came home to her and his family, or they would divorce. Somehow she managed to get him back and he later admitted that he fell back in love with his wife and children.
He has had many affairs prior to reconciling with his wife and it had been an easy life. But apparently he realized that he was more of a family man after all and once he’d had all the women he could have had, he went back to the one he had loved all along.
The divorce was off the table and the two have seemingly been going strong since those trying days. Indeed, in 2008 Snoop surprised Shante with a ceremony to renew their vows. All guests had been in the know, but Shante had had no idea what was about to happen. It seems she overcame her surprise and said “yes” once more.
Whilst their marriage certainly had ups and downs in the years following, they mostly managed to keep things happy enough between them and the couple has been lauded as one of the strongest and longest-lasting in the industry, which is quite the rarity.
But in January divorce rumours made the rounds once more. This time Shante posted a few things to Instagram that had everyone speculating about the state of her marriage to Snoop. It very much sounded as if she was unhappy in her relationship, at least that’s how things were interpreted. Much was also made of the fact that Snoop had apparently been absent from a recent family vacation.
Thus far those divorce rumours have not proven to be true. In February Snoop lost his grandmother, which prompted him among other things to post a picture of his wife and their first grandson, citing them as reasons to “keep on keepin on”.
For now Snoop and Shante remain married and although we can’t say much about the state of their happiness, as long as we don’t hear otherwise, a divorce is not in the cards.
