Sarah Jessica Parker met Matthew Broderick in 1991. He directed an off-Broadway play that starred her brother Toby and she completely fell for Matthew. She called him the funniest guys she ever met and we all know how attractive a great sense of humour can be.
The two married in 1997 and Sarah wore black for her wedding, a choice she later came to regret. Neither of the two really wanted much attention on their special day, but it is on that day that it is actually completely natural to be the centre of attention.
The 14 costliest celebrity divorces in Hollywood or elsewhere
Whilst Sarah’s star soared with Sex and the City, the couple kept their private lives low-key and almost never made the news. When son James Wilkie was born in 2002 that changed for all the right reasons. After that they returned to keeping it private, however.
After her show ended Sarah turned to fashion and fragrance, making a name for herself on that front. She still showed up on the silver screen every now and then, but she had no further regular engagements. Matthew for his part acted on a couple of big movies, most notably on Godzilla, but his life is on Broadway these days.
In 2009 then the couple welcomed their twin daughters via surrogate. Sarah was 44 at the time and Matthew 47. The two were as happy as ever, perhaps even happier than ever and nobody in their right minds would have assumed that there could be trouble in paradise.
Strangely, in 2014, some divorce rumours made the rounds. Some ‘source’ close to the couple claimed that Matthew had no interest in fashion just as Sarah had no interest in theatre, which meant the couple had nothing to talk about anymore.
But when asked, Sarah and Matthew only gushed about each other. Matthew said in the past that he and Sarah truly are best friends. No matter how cliché that might sound, but they talk about everything, which is vitally important.
Sarah never had a bad word to say about Matthew either. She adores her husband and doesn’t shy away from letting everyone know. The D-word never seems to be uttered when it comes to their own relationship.
But one must assume that Divorce has been discussed at home. That is Sarah’s new comedy show, which will debut later this year on HBO. The single-camera comedy will accompany Sarah’s character Frances on her rather lengthy divorce from her on-screen husband Thomas Haden Church.
It would be a sad day for everyone, if one of Hollywood’s longest lasting and most stable couples were ever to divorce. For now we don’t have to worry about that, though, and can only wish Sarah good luck on her new show.
