It’s a sad situation when a married couple can’t hold onto their relationship and end up getting a divorce. But in the case of Rashami Desai and Nandish Sandhu it seems to be for the better.
The couple met on the set of Uttaran, a TV show, in 2011 and fell in love. They embarked on a romance that caught everyone’s attention. Three years later, when the first round of rumours about the couple’s impending divorce made the news, it was claimed that Nandish had already been in a relationship with someone else. Rashami allegedly put on her flirt and convinced Nandish that they’d make a great couple.
We don’t know if there’s any truth to that, but we do know that the two seemed very happy and eventually married in a fairy tale wedding in February 2012. It’s not clear if the couple lived together prior to their wedding, but given that not much time passed between falling in love and getting married, chances are that wasn’t the case.
5 Signs you’re Ready to Move Forward in your Relationship
As soon as 2013 arrived rumours of trouble in paradise emerged. The spectre of legal separation haunted the couple, Rashami dropped her husband’s surname and the two began to live separately.
Early in 2014 then divorce rumours hit the news. Nobody seemed entirely surprised. But there were allegations of physical abuse by Nandish in addition to him excessively flirting with other women. Friends came to his defence saying that he has never been known to abuse a woman and whilst he liked to flirt, he didn’t do so when in a monogamous relationship.
Rashami did reportedly have enough of his philandering ways and she did call him abusive, but she never actually pressed charges against him.
In the end the couple decided to give it another shot. They opted for reconciliation and even appeared on Nach Baliya 7 (a sort of Dancing with the Stars) in mid-2015, even performing a dance together that was supposed to retell their love story and their struggles.
Unfortunately by the end of last year their differences proved to be insurmountable. Rashami once more filed for divorce and this time Nandish agreed. The estranged couple ended up filing for divorce by mutual consent just a few days ago.
Whilst Rashami is back to accusing her ex-husband of an abusive relationship, he came forward saying that he had never given their marriage anything but 100%. We appear to have a classic he said/she said situation here and it’s probably a blessing that no children are involved. Sadly Rashami had suffered a miscarriage at some point in their marriage and who knows how that event might have contributed to their rift.
The two are now facing a mandatory six-month cooling-off period, which allows them to examine their decision one last time. At this stage, however, it is very unlikely that another reconciliation is possible.
