Kris Jenner was married to her second husband Bruce for over 22 years. Before that she had been married to Robert Kardashian, a lawyer who became famous as part of O.J. Simpson’s defense team. He had been friends with Simpson for a while then and, incidentally, Kris had been friends with Nicole Brown Simpson.
Kris divorced from Robert Kardashian in 1991 after 13 years of marriage. She then married Bruce Jenner only one month after her divorce was finalized, but the two of them had already been dating for five months at that point.During that marriage, Kris had two more children with Bruce, Kylie and Kendall.
Their 22 years of marriage seem to have passed largely without hiccups. However, the couple actually split some time before announcing their separation to their children on Keeping up with the Kardashians in October last year. In the divorce documents it is revealed that they have been separated since June 1st last year, even though Kris said in an interview later that same month that everything was fine between her and Bruce.
Once the separation was out in the open, it became clear that Bruce didn’t just live at the Malibu beach house temporarily. In their divorce papers it is stated that it will remain his home from here on, whilst Kris keeps the family home, which is almost its own character on their reality TV show.
The divorce between the ex-couple is settled without lawyers. Kris says that they will always remain friends and everything appears to be quite amicable. The estate is more or less split in half and they will keep joint physical and legal custody of Kylie, who is the only one of their children still underage.
After 22 years of marriage the question is what led to its failure?
Kris Jenner is the hugely successful matriarch of the Kardashian family and Bruce a former Olympian, somewhat of a celebrity in his own right. Both appeared regularly on Keeping up with Kardashians, though Bruce will not be back for a tenth season.
Whilst it is entirely possible that the couple simply grew apart, there’s also talk of Bruce not coping well with his life being constantly exposed on camera. He loves his privacy and it would appear he was not comfortable in his own house anymore.
When their first announced their separation, Kris and Bruce made it very clear that they were much happier than they’ve been in a long time, individually and in their relationship at least as friends. Back then they weren’t talking about getting a divorce yet, either.
It would seem, though, that their children’s concerns were justified. Kim had wondered aloud back during the announcement, what might happen if they each actually started enjoying living apart. Bruce certainly seems happiest when not being filmed at home all the time.
Now that divorce has officially been filed and the terms appear to be settled for mutual benefit, it probably won’t take long until everything is finalized. Having shared more than two decades together, ten children between the two of them, and quite a bit of fame, they seem determined to remain good friends and work everything out between them.
Perhaps now they are better off without being married to each other. They are adults and so are most of their children. When love is no longer enough and one party is unhappy with the shared life, it is certainly time to step back and move in a different direction. That is what Bruce seems to have needed and all the better for him.
