Update: 15 January 2014
Television viewers were either charmed or amused according to their personal dispositions, when the still hunky Tom Cruise, boyishly jumped on the couch and declared his ardent love for waifish actress Kate Noelle “Katie” Holmes on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
As all know, the television teen drama, Dawson’s Creek actress went on to marry the twice divorced Tom Cruise, in 2006, in a lavish ceremony and form the famous ‘TomKat’ pair! But, six years later with young daughter, Suri in tow, Katie Holmes shocked not only the world, but Tom Cruise too, when she fled in a highly secretive and elaborate manner, away from her husband, whilst he was busy shooting for his movie. She moved away to New York and filed for divorce on June 29,, 2012. It was a field day for tabloids as they speculated on the reasons behind her move. There were even theories regarding her choice of New York as place of residence for herself and her six year old daughter.
It is only now that Tom Cruise has come out and admitted that the reason behind Katie Holmes filing for divorce was that she wanted to get their daughter, Suri out of the religious influence of Scientology.
Scientology might be variously labelled as religion or cult, but its most high profile devotee, Tom Cruise seems to be suffering in his personal life because of its beliefs. It does seem kind of strange that Katie Holmes, who knew of Tom’s strong and openly stated personal beliefs in Scientology, rejected him because of the same. Was there an element of cold calculation in the marriage or even in the timing of her filing for divorce or was there naivety on Katie Holmes’ part who perhaps believed that the love of a woman could change a man? The answer is probably known to only her.
Katie Holmes has been in only a few relationships before her marriage. Her beaus include actor Joshua Jackson, who was her co-star in the Dawson’s Creek show. She called him her ‘first love’ and dated him during the early runs of the show.
In 2000, young Katie Holmes fell in love with actor, Chris Klein and they even got engaged later on in the year. Their small town roots brought them together, but maturity and time caused them to drift apart and they finally broke up in 2005. Perhaps, Klein’s slow spiral into various issues including drunk drinking may have also led to their split.
Soon after calling her engagement off, Katie began going out with superstar Tom Cruise. Shortly, in the same year, Katie found herself engaged for the second time and this time to a much older man. Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes in a Scientology ceremony, in 2006. It was a first marriage for Katie Holmes and a third one for Tom Cruise. Katie later gave birth to Suri, in the same year. It was Tom Cruise’s first biological child. He has two adopted children with his previous wife, Nicole Kidman.
Post her divorce, Katie has gone on doing normal and regular things and a hungry media has not been able to get any interesting crumb from the actress! Though the name of her co- star Alexander Skarsgård has popped up in various reports, nothing has been confirmed. Recently, while shooting for the film ‘The Giver, acclaimed actress, Meryl Streep openly declared that Katie was perfect for her son, Henry and that the two had been tweeting each other and getting along really well.
Tom Cruise met his second wife, actress Nicole Kidman, in 1989, when they were shooting for their film Days Of Thunder. They married in 1990. The couple adopted two children, Isabella Jane and Connor Antony. In 2001, Tom filed for divorce from Nicole in a shock move. There were murmurs regarding the role of the Church of Scientology in their split.
Tom Cruise married his first wife, actress Mimi Rogers in 1987. The couple got divorced in 1990 and it is said that it was Mimi who introduced Tom to Scientology.
The boyishly handsome Tom Cruise has been linked with some extremely beautiful ladies from Hollywood. His list includes brief affairs with television actress, Melissa Gilbert and American actress, Heather Locklear with whom he went out for a single date, in 1982. His relationship with co-star Rebecca De Mornay began while shooting for their film Risky Busines. Their romance lasted from 1983 to 1985. He is known to have dated singer and actress Cher too, in 1985.
Tom began a serious romantic relationship with sexy actress Penelope Cruz, who was his co-star in their film Vanilla Sky. But, they too broke up by 2004. According to some sources, the Church of Scientology got into active matchmaking activity for their star follower and allegedly chose the British-Iranian actress Nazanin Boniadi who was also a Scientologist, for Tom. But, the short lived affair ended with Nazanin leaving the Church, thereafter. The gorgeous actress, Sofia Vergara also went out with Tom Cruise in 2005, but her fear of converting to Scientology and the pull of her own religious sentiments made her drop the idea of a long commitment.
Post Tom Cruise’s divorce, there have been speculations that the Church of Scientology is forwarding ladies who are either already Scientologists or are in favor it, as life partner for Tom. Latin actress Yolanda Pecoraro is allegedly on top of that list and experts are already calling her ‘the perfect match’. In 2012, ‘Regular gal’ 26 year old, Cynthia Jorge captured media attention when she was seen partying with Tom at a Manhattan night club. In 2013, there were some stray rumors about actress, Laura Prepon going to a fancy restaurant with Tom.
