Gwen Stefani’s and Gavin Rossdale’s seemingly perfect marriage ended in divorce. Whilst he continues to ignore cheating allegations, Gwen has moved on with Blake Shelton.
Divorce finalized in April 2016
They had been together since 1995. Gavin and Gwen met when her band No Doubt was an opening for his band Bush. They quickly became inseparable and one of the hottest couples in the music industry. Gwen once said that she never imagined herself to score such a hot guy, considering herself more of a nerd than a beauty queen. Her fans would beg to differ.
In 2002 the two went down the aisle, as happy as they’ve ever been. Their first son Kingston was born in 2006, then followed son Zuma. The arrival of their youngest in 2014 was not exactly planned. Gwen even said that she was worried about having a third child, because she feared she would spread herself to thin.
But ultimately it seems to have worked out.
Gwen and Gavin were often seen together out and about, as a couple and as a family. Given their busy lives, they made sure to spend as much time together in between as possible. Gwen was proud of them and considered it an accomplishment that they had managed to stay together as long as they did.
It was certainly unusual.
Alas, it turned out that their marriage was not nearly as successful as Gwen had imagined. In early August last year she filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. She and Gavin announced that they were separating as a married couple, though they would continue to be partners as parents.
Very quickly after the shocking news made the rounds it was rumoured that Gavin had cheated on Gwen with one of their nannies, Mindy Mann. Apparently another nanny had found explicit text messages between the two, which she reported to Gwen. At first Gavin waved those allegations off as harmless flirtations, but eventually (reportedly a few months later) he is said to have admitted to the affair. And here’s the kicker: it’s been rumoured to have been going on for three years!
In other words, Gavin was already cheating on Gwen when they became pregnant with their third child.
Gwen was completely blindsided and very hurt by the whole affair. She’d had no idea what had been going on, which added insult to injury, leaving her embarrassed.
Needless to say that neither Gwen nor Gavin have ever publicly confirmed those rumours. We only have the ‘details’ from so-called ‘sources’. Gwen once said that the whole story was “really juicy” and that she could say much about it. For the sake of her children, however, she wouldn’t. She even hinted that the whole thing was much worse than the media even guessed at.
Gavin on the other hand has never publicly spoken about the alleged affair.
Both Gwen and Gavin filed for divorce and both of them requested joint legal and physical custody of their sons. Gwen also requested that Gavin be denied spousal support.
The divorce was settled in April, only a few weeks ago, and it seems they both got what they wanted. They share custody equally in all matters and have a joint account for all three children in which they each deposited $1 million for all expenses.
They each retain the rights to their music, specifically No Doubt and Bush, respectively. Gwen also retained all rights to her fashion labels. Whilst Gavin gets their four European properties, she keeps two L.A. properties and they will split the earnings from the sale of their Beverly Hills home.
It’s been said that Gwen got off lightly in the settlement, given that her net worth vastly exceeds that of Gavin. Apparently Gavin agreed to less than the 50% that he would have been entitled to, because under Californian law all assets would be split equally when no prenup exists.
For the sake of their children he is said to have wanted to keep things amicable and if he did cheat on Gwen for as long as it is alleged, he is better off not pressing any claims anyway. Things could have turned nasty, if he had wanted more.
In November last year Gwen confirmed after much speculation that she was indeed dating The Voice co-host Blake Shelton. Whilst the two seem to be a somewhat unlikely couple, there can be no doubt that they are very much in love.
Blake credited Gwen with having saved his life after he went through his own divorce from Miranda Lambert at the same time as Gwen went through hers. Gwen on the other hand gushes about Blake and how supportive and amazing he is.
There have recently been rumours that the two were already engaged, perhaps that Gwen was even pregnant again. But given what we know of her, it seems unlikely that she will want another child, which makes that rumour particularly ludicrous.
She also very much denied that she and Blake were engaged. Both of them had only just divorced and had an emotionally very trying year in 2015 and there was really no thought of getting married. They are happy with how things are right now and it has even been claimed that Gwen said to be happier than ever before.
