Emmy Rossum is another one of those actors that you may not know has already been married once. Considering that she was only 22 when she was first married and that it was a secret wedding to boot, it seems hardly surprising that most people don’t realize that she has been married before.
Emmy reportedly started dating her ex-husband Justin Siegel in 2007. In 2008 they were married in secret. The world was under the impression that the two were boyfriend and girlfriend, but no more than that. They appeared happy and loved up for the longest time.
But out of the blue Jason filed for divorce in September 2009. He cited irreconcilable differences and noted that the couple had split in August. Even just before that everyone had thought that everything had been fine between the two, but apparently not.
Jason requested spousal support and that Emmy pay the legal fees for the divorce. Whilst it may sound like it, the divorce was apparently not contentious. At the very least there wasn’t much talk about the divorce. But it did drag out for some time and was only finalized over a year after the couple had separated.
In December 2010 it was reported that neither party had to pay spousal support and their assets were split relatively evenly. Emmy paid out $57,000 to Jason to make up for any differences. And then they parted ways.
Emmy moved on so quickly that some wonder whether a third party might have been the reason for the quick demise of her first marriage. But that’s mere speculation. Emmy didn’t say much about her failed marriage. She did say that everyone messed up in relationships and that she realized her failed marriage didn’t mean the end of the world. Clearly she got out of it on top. One might also put it down to the resilience of the youth. She was barely 25 when she was divorced.
Emmy later famously dated her Shameless co-star Tyler Jacob Moore, but the relationship failed as well. After that she moved on with Sam Esmail, whom she has been dating since 2014.
In August last year it has been reported that Emmy and Sam became engaged. But thus far they haven’t walked down the aisle. In July there were rumours that the two had married in secret, but Emmy quickly said that the information had been a misunderstanding. The two are not yet married and apparently not in a hurry.
Hopefully her second marriage will last longer and perhaps will even be her last one.
